It seems like most of us in this thread has AMD GPU's. Then the next time you put in a disc and the play options box comes up check "always perform selected action" and double click "play with media player classic".

More recently I have tried the PIO thing that seems to be the common answer and I see one of my Secondary IDE's is on PIO only mode and I uninstalled I should be able to just put the DVD in and start watching it. Since you have a weak machine Ubuntu may not be the best choice, Lubuntu would work much better on a machine with that kind of specs. i shall try to download the latest driver online. I clicked on "Applications", then "Ubuntu Software Center" and tried some other DVD players available there under "Sound and Vdeo". "Bangarang" didn't seem to work at all for DVDs.
