It seems like most of us in this thread has AMD GPU's. Then the next time you put in a disc and the play options box comes up check "always perform selected action" and double click "play with media player classic".

More recently I have tried the PIO thing that seems to be the common answer and I see one of my Secondary IDE's is on PIO only mode and I uninstalled I should be able to just put the DVD in and start watching it. Inside SMPlayer prefs, (if necessary) browse & point it to the proper path / file name of MPlayer2.exe. If use vdpau or have multicore mplayer2 is much better than VLC, which doesn't use Vdpau and seems to not very good in multithreading. Apparently, it is possible for a given player to connect to a different codec than what is required. Thanks in advance for any help!

Since you have a weak machine Ubuntu may not be the best choice, Lubuntu would work much better on a machine with that kind of specs. i shall try to download the latest driver online. I clicked on "Applications", then "Ubuntu Software Center" and tried some other DVD players available there under "Sound and Vdeo". "Bangarang" didn't seem to work at all for DVDs.
