It made sense to do this afterall the freezing problem is the same as a satellite box crashing so why not reboot beforehand? Reasonably speaking, if you're having THAT much trouble with your player freezing, something is probably wrong with it. A friend suggested that I clean the optical lens on the Pioneer player. It never gives a pixellated picture. I do a fair bit of DVD burning and I'm pretty sure the burn quality tends to drop very slightly with each burn. And since then I've watched several movies without any freeze-ups during the last 20-25 minutes of the movie.

with this improvement in PQ it seems that it is a little more fussy about dirt on the disc. If you are going to try and keep the costs down, you start with the most costly part.
